1/ The general structure, in which multiple protagonist teams work at conflicting purposes, was inspired by The Wire.
2/ Brisbane's family was originally named after cities. If we kept this up, Nicole's name would've been Dakota.
But we had named her brothers Dennis and David by this point, so the streak was broken. Fortunately.
3/ Avery is energetic but unfocused. She has the worst luck; it's usually her fault. Her grandfather is Tom from Namir Deiter/Grover Hills.
4/ Tera was originally going to be part of Team Miss Fluffy. She was energetic, focused, and very lucky. She'd be a counterpoint to Avery.
Miss Fluffy does things herself instead of having her friends do the work, so there wasn't much for Tera to do.
5/ There was going to be a classmate who held a grudge because Nicole's parents fired his mom. But the comic ended up less business-focused.
6/ Used to begin each storyline with a character getting ready for school. I stopped because I would've had to introduce everyone's parents. (and we wanted to focus on making sure you knew the main cast before we expanded things like that)
7/ Nicole and Derek first appeared in a http://NamirDeiter.net sketch back in 2006. We had been considering a shared sequel for a while.

And a bonus:
8/ Got Any Money? was meant to be the start of a story cycle, centered around what a specific character wants and how they try to get it. That was Avery's chapter. Each of them would be named after a Los Shakers song. But that idea never got much further, in part because I was the only person I know who's even heard of Los Shakers.
